RECD @ SEP 03

HIS BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S CONSULATE GENERAL,

CANTON.

July 27th, 1903.

I have the honour to enclose herewith a

copy of my Despatch No.26 of the 25th instant to His

Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Peking regarding the

present situation in Canton.

Locally, I consider

there is no cause for uneasiness other than the usual

robberies. One or two officials, however, are somewhat anxious about their position, and the services

of the United States and French Consuls are being invoked to intercede and work in their interests and

save them from denunciation by the Viceroy.

I have, &c.,
